Valencia, in Spain’s Levante region, is a testament to great beauty, surprising modernity and a gentleness of life palpable in its street festivals and nightlife. Just to the south, in the D.O. Valencia wine region, there are vineyards of remarkable quality and diversity. Fertile and fruitful, Valencia’s coastal plain has been called the "garden of Spain," famed for Valencia oranges and also boasting Spain’s second largest region for wine grape production. The Valencia region was originally known for crisp and lovely white wines, in recent years, more reliable and reputable red grape varieties have crept into the vineyards and have adapted very well to the favorable climate. One of the most famous of these red grapes is Tempranillo which is the primary grape for El Paseo’s Valencia Red wine.
